MonkeyLectric: A New Way to Light Up the Night (+ Giveaway!)
Who said that using lights on a bike for safety couldn’t be fun? MonkeyLectric has looked at night visibility in the whole new way. The concept uses the spinning motion of the wheel and one stationary piece of lighting equipment to make the wheel become alive with bright, eye-catching designs and colors!

So how does it work?
I thought the same thing when I looked at the packaging, but as soon as I took out the instructions and examined the pieces, I put it on my bike with little to no effort.

The whole concept behind the Monkey Light Mini is a piece of hardware that attaches to the end of your spokes (closest to the rim of the wheel). This piece is then attached to a battery pack that zip-ties to your hub. Make sure everything is securely fastened to either the spokes or the hub in order to prevent uneven weight distribution. Once the everything is in place you simply turn on the hardware and get the wheel spinning! Not only does the light put off a bright color, you can choose one of the 8 themes to light up the night. Hearts, rainbows, block patters, etc… If you can’t pick on theme you can have the light cycle through all of them as you cruse around!

The Monkey Light Mini did not make my wheel feel unbalanced or off centered at all. It was nothing but smooth sailing! Not to mention the extra bit of light I had, brightening the road right at my wheel. After making a few commutes, I found myself just riding around, excited about both the light and the looks from curious people. I was even stopped at a stop light to explain the crazy colors coming from my wheel!
What an awesome gift idea for those you know who commute at night or just love to find exciting new things for their bike! MonkeyLectric makes other cool products too, like the Monkey Light M133 which is the original, full-spokes light kit!

Every girl needs glowing hearts on their bike.
I think fireballs on my wheel might make it look like I’m actually going faster! That would be awesome!
I would love to win the monkeylights because it would greatly increase my safety on rides before work. I am a night shift nurse and sleep all day. When I get up, there is little daylight available for riding, the monkeylights would provide better safety. Plus- they are so cool!!!
This will keep those giant pickup trucks from blowing past me at 50 mph on the way home from work. They’ll all have to slow down to ponder the lights from my wheels!
I would love to put these on my teens bikes so when we ride home from the park or church on these early dark nights I’d feel much safer! This seem way more visible/noticeable than our headlights and tail lights.
Would love to have these. It would get my daughter out riding more. She would love to have some MonkeyLectric Lights too!
Yeah! These are fun. (and good for safety)
Omg how stinkin cute! The hearts so clever!! Yes please…I Need one, my daughter needs one…:)
I love the hearts! These lights are amazing and fun. It’s like having a rave on your bike!
I love that there are so many different themes and colors! I could use them on my road bike, to help light me up when I ride at night, or I could put one on my unicycle.
We often go on a local bike shop’s family rides that sometimes end after dark….I’d feel so much safer with the whole family decked out in these lights! My girls would LOVE them, too!
awww coool. what a fabulous idea. that’s a fun accessory and useful too! would love to treat my daughter with a set
Dude!! I invented these in my mind years ago!! Kudos to Monkey Light for making it happen!! I’m in serious love!!
these lights are sweet! i would love to have these lighting up the road, keeping cars aware of me, and helping to see any rattlesnakes that might want to wrap around my wheels instead! gotta love the southwest!
How cool! They look so SciFi. I ride in the early morning so it would be great to be a little more visible on the road!
Ok these lights are wayyyyyy ubercool.
My husband rides with me occasionally and HEY….. if my bike was sporting MonkeyLectric….it may be more than just tire hearts that light up……… (as the song goes “Love is in the air Everywhere I look around Love is in the air Every sight and every sound”………..la la la.
Everyone could use MonkeyLectric lights. They can help lead the way. And they look Awesome.
I love MonkeyLectric! I have one of their older models on the front wheel of my bike, and could use another one for the rear wheel! Bicycle commuting in the Boston winter is much better when you’re lit.
..”As I walk through the Valley Of The Shadow Of Death I will fear no Evil, because i roll with Monkey Electric”..
I love the mini light as a visual display and entertaining light show on the wheels. Can’t wait to see you at the next bike pary!
I WANT MY MONKEY LIGHTS!! Fantastic,Thanks for the Chance 2 Win! I really need some help with my street safety booth.
My wife is the light of my life, but I could always do with a little extra light.
I just moved to Boulder and could use some extra light as I learn my way around town! Seriously, these look super-cool; I saw info on them on Kickstarter a while back and it’s awesome that they’re now a real product. 8-bit goodness FTW!
What a cool idea – I need some for me and my daughter!
We are doing a lot of group rides and festivals. Would love to show off these lights. They are sooo cool!
I want to be the light in the night!
My daughter lives in San Francisco and rides her bike to and from work. I would love her to have some super cute lights on her bike.
You can never be visible enough on a bike after dark. I like how FUN this light is. It’s functional with a kick!
Rainbow hearts!?!?! YES!
These lights would be terrific for our Slow and Steady critical mass rides every TH night in Cincinnati (regardless of weather!).
And they are what I need for our special holiday event: The Bright Ride! We’re all lighting up our bikes and ourselves to celebrate with a mass ride to spread some smiles and have fun!
My wife and I together total 200 night rides/year (+/_) for work or meetings. We use very bright lights but lighting from the sides could be improved. The Monkey lights would be a great addition to our commutes.
Awesome! Commuting back and forth to Monkey Farm would be much more fun ans safer (Yep, I DO work at one!)
These lights would be fantastic for my dark commutes to and from work! Plus, I want to show drivers here in Minnesota that people can bike in the winter, while being safe and having fun!
This is awesome, would definitely make coming home from the library late at night safer!
I would love these to make myself more visible during my evening commute.
Thanks on creating one of the most stylish blogs I have come across in a long time! It’s truly incredible how much you are able to take away from some thing simply because of how aesthetically gorgeous it is. You’ve created a fantastic site with fantastic graphics, articles, structure. etc
These lights are great! I bought some for my villycustoms.com bicycle and I LOVE the touch that it brings to it at night.
Those are so amazing! I live in a very rural area with not sidewalks and no streetlights… how sweet would it be to look cool while staying visible!
So rad! It would be awesome to be visible AND stylish with this!
Oh this is pure awesomness!! I ride in rural st George where there aren’t many street lights and these would be great to have so cars see me better! I ride year round, so during the winter months, these would get a lot of use!
Those are cool lights! I would love to get some for my bike. Brings back childhood memories of the things we put on our wheels to make them cooler looking.
Being a small rider, hence a small bike, this is an awesome innovation for bike with minimal space on the handlebars!
I am not a Facebook user so I am using this method to ask –
any idea when you will pick this winner?
Thanks and Merry Christmas.
We did pick a winner! Jessica S. of Boulder CO! Congrats =)
it is a must for night riding
ossom!!
