Our Tidbit of the Month: National Wear Red Day – Feb.4th
Go Red For Women Day – Friday, February 4 – Everyone can support the fight against heart disease in women.
Did you know?
•Heart disease is the #1 killer of women.
•Nearly 40% of women in the U.S. die of heart disease or stroke, while about 3% die of breast cancer.
•38% of women will die within one year after having had a heart attack.
•Within six years of having a heart attack, about 46% of women become disabled with heart failure.
•Two-thirds of women who have a heart attack fail to make a full recovery.
Bike for your heart:
Have you ever considered cycling to work? There are so many benefits to cycling. Cycling to work is a good way to get that exercise into your daily routine – every day of the week (or at least on those work days). Research shows that riding that bike to work has its health benefits. A heart study conducted in Denmark found that regular cycling protected people from heart disease.
The study was conducted with 30,000 patients ranging in age between 20 and 93 over a 14 year period of time. Those who did not cycle to work experienced a 39% higher death rate than those who did cycle to work on a regular basis.
So … maybe this is something to consider. Bike for your heart … bike to work!!
National Wear Red Day sponsored by

I am a reborn bike commuter (welllll…trying to be…after 2 weeks, by legs be BURNIN’…) and have been in uber research mode to find the bike necessities that a NYC urbanite might need; time and time again, I find myself constantly returning to your extremely helpful and informative blog!
I was particularly pleased to come across this particular entry to promote Wear Red Day (albeit 5 months late). As a national spokesperson for Go Red For Women (for serious!) for the past 3 years and a survivor of heart disease myself, I just wanted to thank you so much for putting the word out there and raising awareness for heart disease and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.
I cant wait to peruse the rest of your site! Many thanks!
