“Spoke-n For” … Are You??

Cycle and Style is “Spoke-n For” … and you should be too.  On a recent trip to St. John (USVI), I walked into a local jewelry store and I became “Spoke-n For” instantly.  It is always my travel goal to find a unique piece of jewelry on my adventures … and that I did.  Since I have been working with Cycle and Style, I have had my eye out for “bicycle themed” jewelry and look what I found!!

Sergio has been making these unique bracelets for about 12 1/2 years.  It all started with a friend, who was running a bike tour, needing a bracelet or something related to a bike for his tour.  After two months of experimenting with a bicycle spoke and beads the “Spoke-n For” bracelet was born.  It has a very similar likeness to the Caribbean Hook Bracelet.  The hook bracelet has been worn by Caribbean islanders for centuries.  It was adopted as a symbol of unity and love.  Folklore says, “the open end of the hook pointed up toward the heart, your love is taken; the open end of the hook worn down, away from your heart, your love is free.”

Sergio began to create more and more after they become so popular.  Guests at the hotels, people on the beaches, everyone was interested in the “Spoke-n For” bracelets.  He laughed when he told me how people know where to find him: “look for the man on the big red blanket”.  Things have changed since the days of only the “big red blanket”.  Sergio now designs and supplies bracelets to several retailers around the United States and the US & British Virgin Islands and on the web.

Sergio – creator of this one of a kind, hand-made bicycle spoke and bead bracelets.  Sergio is native to Guatemala but grew up in California.  He has traveled the globe and has now settled in the states.

Thanks Sergio for sharing your creations with Cycle and Style.  We have 2 “Spoke-n For” bracelets for our readers.  Make a comment – tell us if you’d like to be “SPOKE-N FOR” too.  Deadline November 10, 2010.

Congratulations to Laura (Minneapolis, MN), Kelly (Missouri City, TX) and Tami (Kokomo,IN) our winners of the “Spoke-n For” bracelets by Sergio.
