Review of Yoga for Cyclists 2 – Road Edition

Paula’s Review of Yoga for Cyclists 2 DVD- Road edition:

Yoga for Cyclists 2 is the perfect companion to go along with your cycling routine. It is tailored to target specific areas and guides you through step-by -step pre ride warm ups, strength building sessions and post ride recoveries. Each session is easy to follow and is labeled by difficulty and length. The sessions move at a relatively slow pace and explain each position so it is great for beginners that have no yoga experience as well as for those that have done yoga before. There are also 3 short sections dedicated to breathing, meditation and relaxation.I pod compatible workouts are available also.  A 72 minute off season full workout is offered also and is a great option.

Both DVDs, Yoga for Cyclists and Yoga for Cyclists 2 are created by Andria Davis, who enjoys cycling herself and the Hatha Yoga she teaches focuses on postures, breathing, and meditation. The style of yoga postures that she teaches is alignment based, which means focusing on proper alignment while staying in the poses and  more therapeutic for those who particpate in other sports such as cycling. Her yoga style is accessible and understandable for other athletes who are not so flexible and who have no experience with yoga. For more information, check out Andria’s website

  1. Why I would like to get into yoga, or practice if more often. I started practicing yoga about a month ago. I have read numerous articles that yoga is great for cycling. I take it right after my spin class at the gym. I think I could benefit having a dvd for a few reasons. One, taking only one class a week, I am only seeing little improvements. Two, I have to practice on the “gyms” time. Third, I swear in yoga class all the time,(under my breath) so I think it would benefit myself and the others around me that I would practice it at home.

  2. I took a yoga class years ago in school and it was the best I have been able to move. I have always been extremely tight even with years of martial arts. I live in a very small town and up in the hills so it is difficult to get to the one yoga class offered in town which also conflicts with my work schedule. I hope this tape will encourage me to get more riding in by getting my juices flowing and my body more mobile.

  3. Flexibility….ahh, such an elusive quality at least for me, especially at this stage in my game (i.e. age). I’ve had plenty flexibility and strength in my younger years thru rock climbing. Strength and endurance have stuck with me but the flexibility, eh not so much. I notice when I’ve taken yoga classes the benefits are amazing and transforming. Personally my top three benefits are: 1. My posture looks and feels great. I’m only 5’4 so I’ll take anything that helps me to feel good with taller people ☺ 2. My breathing is greatly enhanced, especially when I’m participating in a race (triathlon, time trialing, hill climbing) or while swimming and trying not to gasp for air; 3. Being able to attain relaxation during bouts of stress especially during technical terrain while mountain biking i.e. not having a death grip on the handlebar. These benefits also spill over into everyday life too with work, kids, difficult people & situations, etc. Yoga classes don’t fit all the time with my crazy schedule. I do miss yoga and if I were to win the DVD it would balance my life so much the better where I could take on the next 50 years!

  4. I’m a new cyclist, trying to build up to riding a century. As the days get shorter, I’m finding it harder and harder to get home in time for my evening ride, so I’m eager to find some cross-training alternatives that would help me make the most of the cycling time that I can get. I think yoga would be a good possibility for this, but I am completely new to it, so it would be nice to practice some on my own before trying to find classes at the uni (that are full of younger and more flexible students than I)!

  5. i am just getting back into cycling and i am switching off riding and walking til i get back in shape. after days of cycling or walking, i am stiff, i have always been challenged with flexibility and remain intimidated by yoga studios, but have tried practicing at home and all the videos i have tried are just not challenging enough, i want to feel as though i am actually stretching and making progress with flexibility especially in specific target ares that my improve my cycling.
