Thanks for this article. It's refreshing to find out what a man thinks about women riders.

It took my husband over a year of convincing before I got back on my bike as an adult. I was scared I'd lose balance and have a major fall! That was the main reason stopping me from getting on a bike again, but I always saw my husband really happy after his rides. So, I gave it a go 2 years ago and I'm loving it.

When I first started riding recreationally I was at the back of the pack (all men). It took a few months of weekly bike riding for me to catch up to the guys. The guys were easily amazed when I managed to keep up and stay near the front of the pack. I love that our bodies adapt so quickly to new challenges we give it.

I think that one of the advantages that women have over men is our bigger hips! :) My bigger hips, big legs, but lighter weight compared to the men give me heaps of advantages, especially when climbing up long gruelling hills.

The only issue I have is that none of my female friends share my enthusiasm for bike riding. I tell my female friends that regular bike riding could give them killer legs, a toned upper body, and improve cardio fitness. They say it's great, and that's something they'd like, but it's just too scary to get on the bike.

It's quite sad, but I really hope that more women do give it a try and realise the health benefits, convenience, and freedom that they can experience on a bike.

Women are excellent pace line riders, too. They seek information and accept suggestions to improve their technique. They care about the rider(s) behind them. As a result, it is well known that our women's cycling groups are the ones to join if you want a steady wheel and a quality pace line.
